I'm I ever doing paintings?

Lonely Cities - Zachary Johnson
If there is one question that I ever ask myself when exploring the means of art, then it would be, "I'm I ever doing paintings?" Why? Because I simply don't have an attraction to that side of art as much as I do to the other, which is the design bit (here you can reluctantly argue whether design is part of art and what both these two words mean) but anyway back to the question. Let's see... I doubt it? But then again when I see the amazing paintings below I kinda want to go back to tradition and explore the means of painting... even if that means I will get less time designing.

Of course when I say paintings it's really not just paintings. I am just referring to more technical art. For example, paintings, drawings, with medias like oil, acrylic, charcoal, watercolor, etc. I love drawing, and this will definitely be something I will develop in the future, but my painting and everything else is still very rusty, which I why I'm hesitating whether to spend time on it if I don't like it that much as well.

But anyway, here are some pieces I love.

The Kiss - Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Super Massive Black Hole - Elia Fernandez
Daydreaming - BenjiiBen
New York Heights - Wilfred Lang

Beneath the Bayshore Freeway - Jeremy Mann

Braid 2 - Elizabeth Mayville
Mmm... a good dose of art. Do you like them?

Fashion for thought

I am opening a new shop soon! It will be full of very simple, basic designs for all wardrobes. And very affordable for students too (since I'm targeting the locals here eheh). So some inspiration for y'all as the website and the designs and tags and all that shiz comes along the way.

It's not a new idea, but then again the whole thing will be done completely professional and shit. Because I will make sure it's done right. I will make sure it's the good fabric we sell and even though I aim to make it affordable (cheap students eheh) quality goes top. We all want good quality basics.

I think it's going to be great. Don't you think so?

Wire Scupture Series

And my pieces are coming along the way! I have been exploring more about wire lately and this is what I have come up with after a long way of experimenting.

This series is called the Portraiture series. The two first pieces of the series are below.

I've also made a video for it below. Check it out :)

Let's talk lights

So, my fascination with light.

Where shall we start? I think it may be all the way back when I went to Hoi An and bought a whole bunch of lanterns for no reason... and then when I went home I played around with the lights and it made such wonderful colours I fell in love with it. And then we made lamps in grade 10 which was awesome. And now I love lights. I simply do.

For my second studio I am exploring the media of wood - but that's just an alibi for me to go on an make a light. Lights lights lights... let's see. Where do we begin?

Well first of all what made me decide to make a wooden lamp was from this plank light fixture... my god it's beautiful. The simplicity, the rawness... oh dear oh dear.

And then there were these. These strike out so much to me because they use the most absolute organic form of the wood, making it the dominant element in the whole design. The website was great too, be sure to have a look if you're looking for lampshades and stuff as well (they are expensive though if I may warn).

This one, if you look at it, isn't that amazing or anything but if you really look at it, look at the beautiful dark wood and the rhombus pattern and the side planked LED and the metal hangers... damn that is a beautiful product. No wonder it won the Good Design Award in 2008. Good job, Michael Koch, good job.

So any designs for mine yet? No... but soon. Soon. I hope promise.
